The Pre Classic is the best meet on US soil annually - if not one of the best period outside of a major championship. This year was no different as we saw two American records, among outstanding performance after outstanding performance. And while the Regionals lacked the depth and excitement of a big meet, there was much to learn on the way to Rio Read More...

We're about a month away from the Trials and the crystal ball is still pretty murky! Usually I have a pretty good idea how the Trials are going to go by now, but so many elites have been quiet - especially the distance crowd. This may be one of the most surprising Trials in awhile. The colleges have yet to have their Regionals and Nationals - those will take place in the next two weeks Read More...

Penn was the unofficial start to the outdoor season. The "USA v The World" is sort of the kick off to things. That was last weekend. This weekend sh*t got real, as the Diamond League got under way with the first stop in Doha on Friday. And to make sure that things were underway, the Jamaican International Invitational in Kingston made sure that there was plenty of hot action Read More...

The Beijing World Championships are over and if you're a fan of the sport you were pleased with the competition. When Worlds first began back in 1983 it was all about a handful of nations - Britain, Germany, Soviet Union, and United States, with everyone else as filler. Now we see gold medal performances from Kenya, Ethiopia, China, Jamaica, Netherlands, South Africa, and Eritrea among others winning medals all over the globe! That's great for the global brand of track and field Read More...

Once again Pre was as good a meet as any on the planet. Which begs the question, why can't we do this more often? It's a rhetorical question of course, because the simple answer is MONEY! It takes a boat load of money to put on a quality meet these days, and who has that kind of money laying around? Yes, Eugene touts itself as "Track Town USA", but let's be real - it's in Nike's back yard! Nuff said Read More...

In the year 2014 we finally got what I've always known TV could give us - a full day of track & field! The thought of watching track all day on television has been a dream of mine forever. There is an old saying however, be careful what you ask for, you might it. and my day of sitting in the comfort of my home watching track and field had it's moments Read More...

The London Diamond League was pretty much what I thought it would be - best meet of the year and perhaps a preview of several events in Moscow.
If this weekend was any indication, we've got a Wild West shoot out kind of World Championships coming up, because there just aren't that many "sure things" out there this year Read More...

Suddenly the World Championships are very close, and we got a couple of very good "tune up" meets on back to back days (Thu/Sat) that I think started to set the stage for Moscow.
Now's the time when we either watch athletes start to reach their peak or begin to falter a bit. Either way, we're starting to get a clue at where the best battles may be when the first events begin at the World Championships Read More...

Ok people, like Christmas the Prefontaine Classic has come and gone - and just like Christmas I find myself the day after trying to figure out how it compares to meets past. It's not a question of whether or not I liked the meet. It was track and field, of course I liked it. The question is to what degree was my appetite for the sport satiated? Perhaps because of the discussion about the sport in general over the past week I may be a bit more "critical" than usual, but I found the meet to be "just ok" for me Read More...

Perhaps Doha raised the bar a bit high, but I didn't come away from Shanghai with the same WOW factor that I had following the Diamond League opener. A nice set of marks were turned in, but that special something was missing in most of the events on the track. One running event that hit on all cylinders however, was the men's 400 as both LaShawn Merritt and Kirani James showed up to compete Read More...
