Relay action gets underway this weekend with meets in Florida and Texas. Scanning the start lists for the Florida Relays looks like we will get to see some top level sprinting from 400 meter runners – and not all in the 400.

Quartermiler Natasha Hastings looks to be working on her speed as she is entered in both the 100 and 200 in Florida. Hastings set her PR of 49.89 back in ’07 and has had a couple of down seasons since then. She will get a look at this year’s indoor sensation Francena McCorory (50.54 American Indoor Record) as both are entered in the 200 meters, as McCorory looks to be doing a bit of speed work of her own.

On the men’s side of things World Bronze medalist Reny Quow will also be getting some speed work in as he is entered in the men’s 200 meters. He should get a good test as he will get to go up against Osaka 100 meter silver medalist Derrick Atkins who will also be contesting the deuce.

But the real action could be in the men’s 400 with indoor sensation Torrin Lawrence entered along with NCAA indoor finalists Tony McQuay and Calvin Smith. These youngsters will be joined by ’05 silver medalist Andrew Rock – a 44.35 performer who did not compete last year and hasn’t been under 45 seconds since 2006. Rock could be looking to get back in form this year and these youngsters will give him a seasonal baptism by fire.

The meet is heavy on relays and we should see all of the above in relay action as well.
